Data Platform Mobile Upstream Rawinsondes
Description The University of Washington configured a vehicle and trailer to perform as a mobile sonde-launching unit (sonde receiver provided by PNNL/PARSL group, and sondes provided by NCAR/Research Applications Program). The mobile sonde unit was deployed in the Willamette Valley in western Oregon, upstream of the Cascade Mountains. Only a single location was used for each IOP, and was chosen to be approximately upstream of Santiam Pass, according to the mean lower-tropospheric wind direction. Sondes were launched approximately every 3 h during IOPs, at the request of IMPROVE-2 PIs.
